Nevada NOW continues to be impressed with Yvanna Cancela who is the first Latina to serve in the Nevada Senate after she was appointed by Governor Sandoval to fill Ruben Kiuhen's vacant seat.
As the political director for the Culinary Union, she advocated for providing quality, affordable healthcare, and in 2014 she was named a White House Champion of Change for her work in the fight for comprehensive immigration reform.
In the 2007 Nevada Legislative Session, she was tremendously successful in passing a bill she introduced that requires drugmakers publish the list prices they set and profits they make on insulin. This data is kept confidential to protect the profits of drug makers and middlemen.
We look forward to more from rising star, and brilliant woman, Yvanna Cancela.
