Legislation we oppose
Please go to the state legislature’s website and give
your opinion on these bills. The link is www.leg.state.nv.us/74th/opinions/Poll/. Simply
look up the bill or type in the number (eg SB409) and add your
opinion. Our legislators read these opinions! You
will be even more effective if you call or write your legislator.
Usually, the legislator's assistant will answer the phone. You
will simply leave a message saying "I am a constituent,
and I oppose bill #_____." The following are links

Bills (2007):
- SB 299 - this legislation would elevate
the legal status of the fetus to that of an adult human being.
- SB233 - provides tax cuts for Nevada banks
(Nevada is in a budget crisis). Learn more...
- SB-325 - would make Nevada an "English
Only" state
for government business;
- and SB-415 would take
away Millennium scholarships from "alien students," regardless
of how long those children have been students in Nevada. (For
example, some of these students may been studying in Nevada
since first grade) NOW believes these bills are distraction
from the real problems our state faces, and ultimately hurt
Nevada. The
Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada (PLAN) writes, “PLAN
believes that attacks on immigration are fueled by popular
mythologies of visitors using government services while failing
to pay taxes, but a recent study by PLAN, a coalition of three-dozen
groups working for economic and social justice in the Silver
State, found that immigrants pay more in taxes than they receive
in services.”
